This is to be a high quality core community amenity that inspires the current community and next generations to engage through wider access to arts, theater, our districts diverse culture and local heritage. A place that once again creates excitement at every touch point and for every age.
It is a place to enhance community well-being through providing spaces that are safe, promote inclusion, provide a sense of belonging and enable the building of partnerships between our children, families and the community as a whole.
It will be a place to enable local tangata whenua and iwi to share their own kōrero of the district, their role in being kaitiaki of the Clutha River / Mata-Au, and providing links to the river.
We will also be working with partners to provide additional programs for youth not currently available, supporting the fantastic work already being done in the district.
With this being a community driven project it was of utmost importance any redevelopment of the Balclutha War Memorial Hall allowed the facility to be accessible to all aspects of the local community.
While we are also supporting the districts business community within the facility these aspects will also be available to the district as a whole, we aim to put these modern, technically supported spaces into the reach of the whole community to enable both individuals and groups to grow and explore opportunities that would otherwise not be possible.
